felt called to do charity work in El Salvador.  After attending Oscar Romeros funeral she wrote to a friend... “Several times I have decided to leaveEl Salvador.   I almost could, except for the children, the poor, bruised victims of this insanity.  Who would care for them? Whose heart could be so staunch as to favor the reasonable thing in a sea of their tears?  Not mine dear friend, not mine!”  Eight months later, with three young nuns, she was raped and murdered by a military death squad.

 23. Karen Woo

a surgeon from London, gave up a 6 figure salary to provide basic healthcare in remote areas of Afghanistan.  In 2010, she and her team of nine aid workers,  were robbed and shot dead. The Taliban took responsibility and accused the charity team of spying and converting people to Christianity, which the organisation she was with strongly denied.  Karen was also making a film about the effects of the war on civilians.  She was due to be married two weeks later.
