Pussy Riot 2011-Present

A Russian feminist and anonymous protest movement.  A Pussy Riot punk band protested in the Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow and  performed their "Punk Prayer” .

The “supreme religious spiritual head” of the Russian Orthodox Church claimed Putin was “a miracle from God”.   Pussy Riot said the church is a “weapon in a dirty election campaign” and called Putin “a man who is as far as can be from God’s truth.”

A music video of the protest was put on YouTube calling on the Virgin Mary to rid Russia of Putin.

Three members were arrested and detained for five months before being convicted of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred”.  They were sentenced to two years imprisonment, sparking local and international protests.
