Roland, Sue and Dann

Roland and Sue grew up and were married in Melbourne, in 1987.   They joined the Jesus Christians when they were 21 and 18 years old, forsaking all they had and committing their lives to following the teachings of Jesus and living in community.

In 1985 Roland walked 1000 miles across the Nullabor desert in Australia, with others, without taking food, extra clothing, money or supplies.

In 1989 Roland and Sue set up the Jesus Christians community in the UK and Dann was born a few years later.

In 2000 Roland and Sue were sensationally accused of kidnapping 16 year old Bobby Kelly when he left home to travel with the community with his guardian's blessing.  In 2005 they were again both charged with abducting a 27 year old woman and her son in Kenya who had decided to join them.  (Roland contracted TB while in a Kenyan prison.)  Both accusations turned out to be trumped up.   The couple were given suspended six month sentences for failing to hand Bobby Kelly over to the British High court after Bobby spoke in their defense, and the abduction charge in Kenya was dropped by the Attorney General when the woman they were accused of abducting told the court it was a plot by her father to stop her joining the community.   Bobby Kelly remains a close friend.

Roland and Sue have distributed more than half a million books, DVDs and comics to people on the streets of the UK.

Roland and Sue have both donated their kidneys altruistically with Jon Ronson documenting Sue's kidney donation over 12 months.

In 2008 they appeared as a freegan family on the TV show Wife Swap as well as on The Jeremy Kyle Show.

In 2010 the family was asked to leave The Jesus Christians in Australia due to a disagreement with the leader, David Mckay, on how to discipline Daniel.

The family has actively supported Julian Assange since he was arrested in 2010.
